Do I need a business to get value from this content?

No, but we strongly suggest you have a business development or personal branding mindset. Whether your book is destined to help you build your personal brand, raise awareness for a cause that's important to you, or to help you inspire people to action - you'll find important profit-building lessons in all four stages of production. Along the way, we will encourage you to seek opportunities to make a greater impact with your book, which may evolve into something you can't even imagine at this point.

Can I use this to write a biography, fictional book, or a children's book.

This really isn't designed for that those types of books because of their unique needs. There are many writer's clubs and support groups that would be a better fit. Start by asking your local library.

Do I need a book idea before I start?

Nope! This is one areas this program excels by helping you find the right book for your goals. We'll help you create your great book idea in Lab 1 - or, if you've already got one or started writing one, we'll help you make it even better.

What if my book idea already exists?

That's actually good news! Now you know there is a market for your message and you'll be able to learn from the previous author's success and mistakes to make your book even better. Remember, there are literally hundreds of cookbooks on baking cupcakes. It's your unique story and ingredients that will make your book special to your audience.

I'm nervous because I'm not a good writer. Any advice?

Yes, we cover several production ideas in Lab 2 to help you publish a book even if you don't really want to "write" it (either because of time or ability). There are many ways to get your ideas in print and of course, you'll have an editor to make sure you sound great! Just bring your passion and courage and we'll help you with the rest.

Do you recommend print books or can I just do a Kindle book?

We ALWAYS recommend producing a real, beautiful, print book. You absolutely want a tangible item that can be wrapped, mailed, autographed, shared, gifted, highlighted and dog-eared. Kindle books are rewarding to readers because they are available instantaneously, but as a marketer, they're really not as great an asset to you. We call them "disappearing ink" because people forget about them quickly. You should require more from your investment than that!

What publisher do you recommend?

That depends on several factors within your goals. We have about 3 preferred self-publishing companies depending on what you need. We show you how to make that decision in Lab 3. Are you a book publisher?

Yes. If requested, we handle the publishing details under our publishing brand name Niche Pressworks (nichepressworks.com) and serve as your project manager through all the editing, design and account set-up phases. That being said, you don't have to use our brand name if you'd rather use your own. In any case, our primary objective is to get your book published WITHOUT sacrificing your rights, or getting you trapped in pricey and limiting royalty contracts. When our work is complete we turn over ALL the files and ALL the master accounts to you so you have total freedom to manage pricing, distribution, and order at cost anytime you want. If we publish your book, you will never pay us royalties or sales commissions, and there are no minimum orders! 

How long does it take to publish a book?

The average author takes 3 years to write a book which is why we've loaded The Authority Lab with worksheets, checklists, and hacks to help you get your book DONE faster than you would on your own. We recommend budgeting 2-3 months to write your book (at a pace of about one chapter a week) and then 10-12 weeks for production (edit, design, digital and print proofs, shipping time, etc.)

What if I live outside of the United States?

Our past and present clients live in the U.S., Canada, and as far away as Germany and Thailand - and we've helped them all get their book on international Amazon sites and find local book printers to avoid paying customs fees. 

Can you edit the book or do I have to find an editor?

We take care of the editing (spelling, grammar and content consistency for up to 25,000 words) in our Done-For-You Publishing Services (sold separately). If you're going to self-manage your publishing, we teach you how to find, test, and hire an editor in Lab 3.

What other financial investments will I need to make?

You should anticipate between $1000 and $3000 for photos, editing, design, file prep, and an initial order. Your marketing budget can vary wildly but in most cases, you can do that as time and money permit.
